GWPDA – archiwum dokumentów z okresu I wojny światowej

GWPDA, czyli The Great War Primary Documents Archive, to internetowe archiwum historyczne poświęcone przede wszystkim I wojnie światowej.

Projekt należy do starszych internetowych archiwów historycznych. Jego początki sięgają połowy lat 90. XX wieku. Archiwum powstało dzięki współpracy historyków, badaczy i wolontariuszy zainteresowanych I wojną światową.

Wśród materiałów można znaleźć pamiętniki i relacje osób uczestniczących w wydarzeniach wojennych. Przykładem są dzienniki generała Lionela Dunsterville’a z lat 1911–1922, dziennik amerykańskiego pilota Alfreda A. Cunninghama czy publikacje przedstawiające doświadczenia ludzi przebywających podczas wojny w różnych częściach Europy i Bliskiego Wschodu.

Osobną część stanowi WWI Biographical Dictionary, czyli słownik biograficzny dotyczący postaci związanych z I wojną światową.

Zostało ono przygotowane przez Historical Section of the Committee of Imperial Defence i wydane w Londynie w 1922 roku.

Dokumenty dotyczące Niemiec, Austro-Węgier i Rosji mogą pomóc w poznaniu szerszego kontekstu takich rodzinnych historii.

Pozwalają one poznać system europejskich sojuszy, konflikty polityczne i procesy prowadzące do wybuchu wojny w 1914 roku.
